New Children's Book Teaches that Friends Come in All Shapes and Sizes

Without an ounce of gratitude or understanding, the three berate the giraffe and then choose to ignore him. Years go by, and there comes a season when food is scarce. Again the zebras find themselves in great need, and "Long Neck" comes selflessly to their aid. This time the three zebras recognize the value of such a friend.
Long Neck is the latest children's book from author Michael Willert, with illustrations by Victor Guiza. The setting is the lush grassy plains of Africa. The story, which is set against a rich
tableau, has so much to teach young children, including the virtues of tolerance and acceptance.

During the day, author Michael Willert is a purchaser at General Safety Equipment in Wyoming, but at night, his creative energy is released through the writing of children's stories and song lyrics. Last holiday season, Willert published his first children's book, Wanted: Billy the Bear, which is geared to children in grades second through fourth. Willert is working on a large assortment of book projects that will be released over the coming years, including sequels to Wanted: Billy the Bear, and a Halloween book for older children.
"I think of myself as a very creative person, " Willert says. "I have a wild imagination." Willert writes at every opportunity, including the time he sits in his car waiting for his daughter's piano lesson to end, or even when he is waiting to pick her up from Sunday school. In addition to writing, he designs the covers and interior layouts for each book, markets his books, and schedules readings and book signings.
A portion of the profits from both of Willert's current books will be given to the American Cancer Society & the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
